Ethics
Pen Underwriting is a separately regulated company within the Gallagher group, but we are proud to share its culture and ethics.
As part of the Gallagher group, we have been recognised as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. Globally, only 145 companies from 21 countries have been acknowledged in this way and we are one of only two insurance businesses worldwide to be awarded this distinction. The Ethisphere Award is a global award, with other honourees including Dell, Marks & Spencer, Hasbro and Volvo.
The Ethisphere Institute recognises those companies that demonstrate a strong ethics and compliance programme, good corporate citizenship and responsibility as well as a culture of ethics, governance, leadership, innovation and reputation.
We are proud to have won this award for seven consecutive years, demonstrating our continued commitment to ethical behaviour. It shows potential and existing clients that they can trust us, not just from our principles but from how we put them into action.
As part of this, together with Gallagher, we participate in the United Nations Global Compact Principles. This is a policy which demonstrates a commitment to act in line with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
We are also committed to giving back to the community.
In 2016 Pen employees voted to support Cancer Research as our corporate charity and we set up our own Charity Committee to focus our efforts. We organise and taken part in a range of fundraising activities from Cancer Research’s own Christmas Pudding Race to Cake and Coffee Morning for World Cancer Day. Gallagher’s match funding scheme – for volunteer time as well as funds raised – provides a significant boost to our giving activities.
Our ethics are part of our DNA and we apply them to our relationships with all of our stakeholders: colleagues, brokers, suppliers, partners and, most importantly, the people we insure.
